Oneida Nation up in arms against NY casino

The tribe is concerned the opening of Finger Lakes casino may affect negatively its own Turning Point Resort and Casino.

US.- The Oneida Nation has run the Turning Point Resort and Casino in upstate Verona for more than 20 years now, which has become the “economic engine” for the Native American tribe “infusing more than $6 billion in direct spending.” Now, the Oneida Nation believes the opening of the Lago Resort and Casino 75 miles away in Tyre, will “undermine” its gambling profits.”

To prevent Finger Lakes casino to operate and therefore become a competitor, the Oneida Nation filed a new lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court, with the purpose of trying to get the New York’s gaming commission to shut down the casino. The suit questions the process that awarded Lago casino license, claiming it was “riddled with legal errors.”
