Casinos in Maryland generate $142m in September
The six casinos in Maryland generated US$142.2 million in revenue during September operations, representing a 1.1% decline.
US.- The Maryland Lottery and Gaming has released the financial report detailing September operations. Last month, the six casinos in Maryland generated US$142.2 million, which is a 1.1% decline when compared to September 2018.
Revenue from the casinos sent US$59.2 million in contributions to the state, supporting the Education Trust Fund, as well as the local horse racing industry.
While the overall results were negative, there were two casinos that increased their revenues in September in Maryland. MGM National Harbor, the leading operator in Maryland, generated US$57.7 million in revenue in September, up 6% from 2018. Rocky Gap Casino Resort is the other facility with positive results, as it totalled US$4.7 million and a 3.2% rise.
Live! Casino & Hotel generated US$47.7 million but represents a 5.1% decline. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore posted US$18.5 million in revenue but it’s a 5.1% setback from 2018. Ocean Downs generated US$7.4 million and a 0.4% decrease, while Hollywood Casino Perryville generated US$5.9 million and a 4.7% fall.
Maryland casinos support small businesses
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has launched a new report in which it says that the casino industry in Maryland supports small businesses. At a Get to Know Gaming event at MGM National Harbor on Monday, AGA said that the industry in Maryland also strengthens communities and provides good jobs that pave a path to the middle class.
Casinos & Communities: Maryland details the economic and social contributions from the gaming industry to communities in the state. It also provides data on gaming’s economic impact: the industry supports 15,364 jobs and US$713 million in wages every year.
“Maryland’s six casinos are driving tremendous opportunity for communities across the state. As a native Marylander, it is remarkable to see how fast this industry has grown. And at the same time, how it supported the communities where they operate,” said Bill Miller, president and chief executive officer of the American Gaming Association.
