Casinos in Louisiana reported wins of $221.6m, down 2.9 per cent from May’s win total of $228.2m.

US.- Louisiana’s casinos have reported a month-on-month decrease in wins for June.

Home to 13 riverboat casinos, a land-based venue in New Orleans and four rancinos, the state of Louisiana saw $221.6m in wins in June, down 2.9 per cent from May’s $228.2m.

The land-based Harrah’s hotel-casino downtown near the Mississippi River reported $24.6m in June. That represents a decline of 8.1 per cent from $26.8m in May.

The Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, northwest of downtown New Orleans on Lake Pontchartrain, also saw wins fall 8.1 per cent, from $9.2m in May to $8.4m.

The sharpest decline statewide occurred in Bossier City, where the Horseshoe riverboat casino’s winnings plunged by 23.5 per cent, from $17.6m in May to $13.5m in June.

In June, the southern part of the state felt the impact of Tropical Storm Claudette, which hammered the area with strong winds and heavy rainfall. The deadly storm made landfall along the Louisiana coast on June 19.

However, L’Auberge, a riverboat casino in Lake Charles, saw revenue climb 18.9 per cent from $27.3m in May to $34.5m in June.

Hollywood Casino in Baton Rouge also fared well, up 4.6 per cent from $5.7m to $6m.
