Football league asks government to remove ad and sponsorship bans to help generate revenues during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Italy.- Serie A, Italy’s premier football league, has asked the government to relax its gambling advertising rules to help the sport recover from the COVID-19 crisis.

According to Calvinayre, Serie A has asked for the prohibition on gambling advertising and sponsorships to be lifted.

The sponsorship ban alone, which took effect last summer, is projected to cost Serie A teams around €100m in lost revenue on an annual basis.

But with the Coronavirus crisis leading to matches being cancelled, the league and its teams are set to be hit even hard due lost revenues from ticket sales and concessions in addition to TV fees.

GaLand-based gambling operators have been offered some financial assistance from Head of State Sergio Mattarella, after he signed the ‘Curia Italia’ decree, an economic relief package to help businesses affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

Today, Italy has passed China in terms of Coronavirus related-deaths with a total of 3400 in the country.
