June was a record month for Atlantic City casinos, with gross gambling revenue of $345m.

US.- Atlantic City casinos posted a record $345m in gross gambling revenue for June, as Covid-19 fears eased and people returned to gaming venues.

Casinos were closed in June 2020, but the figure was up 20 per cent from revenue of $278m in the same month in 2019.

As June marks the beginning of the summer season, it is one of the most profitable times for casinos in Atlantic City. Last month’s figures “did not disappoint,” said Jane Bokunewicz, director of the Lloyd Levenson Institute at Stockton University.

She said: “(Casinos were) coming off a near-record single-month high in May of $337.2m to set a new single-month total gross gaming revenue record. Casino patrons don’t have to visit the casino in-person in order to gamble, the fact that they are visiting suggests they are getting more out of the experience than gambling alone.”

James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, said: “I’ve seen first-hand that visitation to Atlantic City is on the rise, tourists are happy to be coming back, and the summer season is off to a positive start.”

Borgata was the top performer, with $97.7m in revenue, followed by Hard Rock at $41.6m; Tropicana at $27.4m; Ocean at $26.6m; Harrah’s at $21.3m; Caesars at $20.3m; Resorts at $13.9m; Golden Nugget at $12.2m, and Bally’s at $11.6m.
