Tokyo 2020 off if pandemic not over
Tokyo 2020 President, Yoshiro Mori, said the Games would be scrapped rather than postponed for a second time.
Japan.- The postponed Tokyo Olympic Games will be cancelled if the global Coronavirus pandemic is not brought under control.
This year’s Olympic Games were postponed until 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But in an interview with Nikkan Sports, Tokyo 2020 President, Yoshiro Mori, said the games would be cancelled rather than postponed for a second time.
“No. In that case, the Olympics will be scrapped. We have delayed the Olympics until next summer after we will have won the battle.
“The Olympics would be much more valuable than any Olympics in the past if we could go ahead with it after winning this battle.
“We have to believe this otherwise our hard work and efforts will not be rewarded.”
Earlier this month, a leading scientist in Japan stated he was ‘very pessimistic’ about the chances of a 2021 Games.
