Transport services between Macau and HK to be suspended

Measures come into force from January 30 as governments across the region try to halt the spread of Coronavirus.

Macau.- The Coronavirus outbreak is forcing governments across China, Macau and Hong Kong to take drastic measures to avoid the virus spreading further, with major transport services set to be suspended.

The Hong Kong Maritime Department has announced that it will suspend ferry services between the Outer Harbour and the Taipa Ferry Terminals and the Tuen Mun and Kowloon Ferry terminals from January 30 

The frequency of ferry services connecting the two SARs to Hong Kong International Airport and the Sheung Wan Ferry Terminal will also be reduced from that date. The same restrictions will be applied to flights to and from the mainland, with journeys expected to be cut by half. Cross-border tour buses will also be reduced.

The measure is part of several announced today by authorities to reduce cross-border travel in a bid to decrease the risk Coronavirus spreading further. Other measures include the suspension of individual travel visas for mainlanders and the shutdown of the railways to the city.

Yesterday, authorities from Hong Kong also confirmed the closure of public facilities such as sports centres, campsites and museums.
