POGOs behind on tax payments

Bureau of Internal Revenue says that until payments are met, no POGO will be allowed continue operating in the country.

Philippines.- Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) are behind on tax payments according to the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The bureau also added that until payments are met, no POGO will be allowed continue operating in the country.

According to the Inquirer, BIR Deputy Commissioner and POGO task force head, Arnel Guballa, said that POGOs were “still in the process of complying with the requirements, including payments.”

It also noted that not a single POGO had been granted approval to resume operations following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the Philippines.

There are currently 60 approved POGOs in the country with 218 service providers registered.

Last week, it was reported that POGOs were playing a “significant role” in the country’s economic recovery from the pandemic.
