Nagasaki launches new timetable for IR bid

Japan.- The Nagasaki prefecture has announced a new timetable for the process to select a private partner for its bid to host an integrated resort in Sasebo.

The authorities aim to initiate the request-for-proposal (RFP) process in January 2021 and to choose an operator before the autumn.

GGR Asia reported that by winter 2021 at the latest, Nagasaki wants to have established an IR development plan to be able to submit a formal proposal to the national government in spring 2022.

Japan’s central government has said it will issue at least three IR licences, with local governments able to bid to host the resorts until April 28, 2022.

Nagasaki’s new timetable is part of a public consultation on the prefecture’s revised IR implementation policy, which is open until December 20.

The revised measures include some changes designed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and others to prevent gambling harm.

The Nagasaki bid has attracted attention from operators such as Oshidori International Holdings, Casinos Austria, a consortium comprising Get Nice Holdings and Current Corp, and most recently, Pixel Companyz in association with the French operator Groupe Partouche.
