Marina Bay Sands US$1bn renovation project to be completed in phases
The upgrade of Marina Bay Sands’ hotel accommodations will be completed in phases over 2022 and 2023.
Singapore.- Marina Bay Sands casino resort has announced that the US$1bn upgrade of its existing hotel space will be completed in phases between 2022 and 2023. The renovation project is separate from Las Vegas Sands’ 2019 commitment to the Singapore government to invest S$4.5bn (US$3.3bn) in the expansion of the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
The expansion will include an entertainment venue, a new hotel tower and additional meeting, conference and exhibition space. The pledge coincides with the group’s extension of Singapore casino rights to 2030.
The company mentioned a completion date of 2026 for the expansion. However, the group’s third-quarter earnings presentation said the work could be completed by 2025.
In January Alvin Tan Sheng Hui, Singapore’s minister of state for trade and industry, said expansion plans of Singapore’s two integrated resorts were going to be delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Paul Town, Marina Bay Sands’ chief operating officer, said the company would be “excited to unveil the new facilities to guests from around the world in the months ahead as international travel returns following the easing of border restrictions”.
