Macau Slots sees wagers plummet in H1

Sports cancellations caused betting volume to fall to a third of 2019 levels for Macau’s sole betting concessionaire.

Macau.- The operations of betting concessionaire Macau Slots have been severely impacted by the suspension of professional sports tournaments.

Executive director Ho Chin Pang has said that postponements and cancellations of football and basketball matches in the main leagues had caused betting volumes in H1 to drop to a third of 2019 levels.

In an interview with TDM Radio, he said that despite the impact the company expected an improvement in the second half as sports resume. He said betting volumes could recover to similar levels reported in the same period last year.

Macau Slots reported MOP154.8 million (US$19.3 million) in net profits for 2019, which was a 30 per cent drop on the previous year.

Macau Slots is the exclusive betting concessionaire in Macau for instant lottery, football and basketball until 2021.
