Macau GGR down 94.5% in August

Gross gaming revenues is down by more than 90 per cent year-on-year for a fifth consecutive month.

Macau.- Casino gross gaming revenues (GGR) were down 94.5 per cent year-on-year in August to MOP1.33 billion (US$166.6 million).

It’s the fifth consecutive month to see a dent of more than 90 per cent in gaming revenues compared to the previous year. Revenue was actually slightly less than in July (MOP1.34 billion), although the size of the drop is the same – 94.5 per cent.

Figures show that cumulative gaming revenues for the first eight months of this year decreased by 81.6 per cent year-on-year to MOP36.3 billion (US$4.5 billion).

There has no been a significant impact on gaming revenue so far from the resumption of individual and group tourist visas for Zhuhai and Guangdong Province on August 12 and August 26 respectively.

Since the visas take some time to process, it’s expected that an impact may be seen this month. The daily tally of tourist entries has reached around 10,000.

Measures are still strict to prevent the spread of the virus in the SAR. Anyone entering a casino is required to present negative nucleic acid test results, and undergo body temperature checks.
