Macau gaming law advisor to leave government role

Gaming law expert António Lobo Vilela is leaving his position as an advisor to the Macau Secretary of Economy and Finance.

Macau.- Gaming law expert António Lobo Vilela has announced he is leaving his role as senior advisor to the city’s Secretary for Economy and Finance.

According to Macau News Agency, his departure is voluntary.

Vilela, who began his current role in 2016, said: “I have been presented with a number of opportunities which are very interesting to me and which I would like to pursue”.

The legal expert was also a senior legal advisor to the commission for the first public tender to grant casino concessions and to the think-tank in charge of co-drafting the gaming law that liberalised the local gaming market.

Vilela recently published the Macau Gaming Law: Annotated with Comments, a four-volume work detailing the two-decades-long development of the local gaming law.
