Kangwon Land reopens with cap on capacity
In a second pandemic-related lockdown, the casino was closed from August 23.
South Korea.- Kangwon Land, the only casino in which locals are allowed to gamble in South Korea, has partially reopened, emerging from a second lockdown related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The reopening coincided with the Ministry of Health and Welfare relaxing some of the restrictions in South Korea.
As of this week, up to 750 people may use the mass gaming floor at once and another 68 people can play in the VIP facilities.
All guests must be seated and face masks are mandatory for guests and staff.
Kangwon Land casino was first shut in February at the beginning of the pandemic. It resumed VIP operations in May but due to a rise in cases closed its doors again on August 23.
The impact of these two lockdowns on the company’s finances was reflected in its last financial report. Kangwon Land estimated its casino revenues for the full year 2020 will be down by 67 per cent compared to 2019, at KRW498 billion (US$430 million).
