Kangwon Land extends closure to May 11th
South Korea casino to remain closed despite others in the country re-opening.
South Korea.- The Kangwon Land Casino will remain closed until May 11 despite other casinos in the country re-opening their doors amid the global Coronavirus pandemic.
This means the casino will have been closed for at least 11 weeks, losing more than US$300million in revenue over that time.
The state-owned enterprise first announced an initial three-day closure on February 23 but has continued to extend the closure due to the on-going Covid-19 outbreak.
Kangwon Land is the only casino in South Korea where locals are permitted to gamble.
The closure is only the second time the casino has shut its doors to the public in its history. It previously closed for one day in 2012 to check security cameras following a security breach.
