Japan: concerns over Chinese gambling blacklist impact for IRs
House of Representatives member Kenji Eda warned that China’s gambling blacklist could see tourists banned from travelling to Japan’s future IRs.
Japan.- House of Representatives member Kenji Eda has expressed concern that China’s blacklist of travel destinations used for gambling could include Japan after the country opens its planned integrated resorts.
Last month, it emerged that China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism was drawing up a second selection of overseas gambling destinations to add to its blacklist.
According to Eda, this decision could have a major impact on Japan’s first integrated resort developments which would rely heavily on wealthy Chinese visitors.
The government responded to Eda through a statement saying it was aware of the Chinese government’s measures but it could not comment for now since the specific details of Chinese travel blacklist are not yet known.
