Ladbrokes and Neds hit with  record fines for illegal ads

Operators fined a total of $207,500 for running illegal gambling advertisements.

Australia.- Two Australian bookmakers have been fined a total of $207,500 for running illegal gambling advertisements.

Ladbrokes and Neds were found to breach NSW law that states operators cannot run gambling advertisement that are seen to encourage consumers to play or play frequently.

Wagering operators found guilty of running such ads face fines of up to $110,000 per offence, while company directors can be criminally prosecuted. 

Ladbrokes and Neds were found guilty of running several advertisements across Channel 7, Instagram and Facebook in 2018, which offered bonus bets for a smaller deposit such as a deal to “Deposit $50, get $250 in bonus bets.”
