Australia: Sydney extends Covid-19 restrictions another week

Authorities have extended countermeasures for another week after 18 new Covid-19 cases were recorded.

Australia.- The New South Wales Government has announced that it will extend Covid-19 restrictions for at least one week.

Under current restrictions, only essential businesses are allowed to open. Casinos and gambling venues remain closed.

In line with the announcement, Crown Sydney has said it will remain closed until further notice. The closure includes its restaurants, bars, gym as well as events and conferencing facilities.

The Star Sydney will also remain closed. The company had stated that it will continue to pay staff during the seven-day closure. The Star also said it will remain committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of its team members and guests.

Authorities have started checking hospitality venues in Sydney are complying with Covid-19 rulesLiquor and Gaming NSW is in charge of inspections with around 40 inspectors dedicated to the task.

Darren Duke, acting director of compliance at Liquor & Gaming NSW, said: “Venues not complying with the Public Health Orders pose a clear and significant risk to public health.

“Any venues found breaching the rules may be subject to a fine or in serious cases could face a closure of their venue.”
