The Virginia Lottery Board has sent the casino regulations to Governor Ralph Northam to be signed.

US.- Virginia is a step closer to the final approval of new permanent casino gaming regulations. The Virginia Lottery Board has approved the regulations and sent them to Governor Ralph Northam‘s desk for his signature.

The permanent regulations follow emergency regulations passed earlier this year. Once Northam signs them off, a 60-day public comment period will begin before final approval.

There are currently four proposed land-based casinos in the state, in Bristol, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Danville, which were approved by voters last November. A fifth proposal, ONE Casino + Resort in Richmond, has not yet been approved by voters but may be included on the ballot this November.

Virginia Lottery executive director Kevin Hall said: “The Lottery’s Gaming Compliance Department and Office of General Counsel have been diligently working to set up the regulatory and licensing framework to ensure casino gaming in Virginia is secure and transparent.

“In this role, we see the Lottery as the public’s watchdog, confirming that the law and regulations are followed, and the integrity of casino gambling is protected.”
