Veikkaus appoints new CFO

The gambling monopoly from Finland Veikkaus has announced the appointment of Regina Sippel as new CFO of the company.

Finland.- Veikkaus has announced that Regina Sippel started on September 1 her new role as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company. Sippel is also now a member of the Executive Team of the Finnish gambling monopoly Veikkaus.

The new CFO will take over the management of Veikkaus’ Finance, Planning, and Services function, leaving her previous position as Group CFO of Thomas Cook Northern Europe.

Veikkaus said that the organisational structure will be revised in the upcoming days and the responsibilities of the Executive Team members will be defined accordingly. Pekka Ilmivalta will continue as SVP, Legal Affairs and CSR; Ari Aarnihuhta as SVP, CIO, in charge of ICT function; and SVP, Channels and Sales Jari Heino will be taking over retail sales, in addition to Points of Sales and Services.

Moreover, Veikkaus said that in the new organisation, Jarmo Kumpulainen will be taking over CSR matters besides the tasks of the Secretary of the Executive Team, and Anna Segercrantz will be responsible for the procurement, in addition to the premises. Master of Engineering Joni Hovi will start as VP of Customer Relations Management in Veikkaus’ New Business function.

Veikkaus to establish internal ethics council

Veikkaus will establish an internal ethics council. This move comes after the company suspended advertising after it received public pushback due to the message in the material.

Veikkaus administrators received the task of preparing a road map in time for the next board meeting. The company also updated its guidelines and now it features a responsibility metric in its reward system. The metric tracks addictive behaviour.

Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, chair of the board, said: “Responsible values are integral to all of Veikkaus’ services. We have been steadily evaluating the emergence of problematic gambling trends.”

Veikkaus already had dissolved its ethics committee in 2017 when the company fused with Fintoto and the Slot Machine Association. It seems as the recent incident could have been avoided if the committee was still in place.
