Mississippi: The Scarlet Pearl, D’Iberville’s first casino opens

The U$ 290 million casino includes 1,300 slot machines and 36-hole miniature golf course among other amenities
US.- In D’Iberville, Mississippi, a pleased crowd was part of the grand opening of the city’s first casino and South Mississippi’s 12th one: The Scarlet Pearl. The US$ 290 million casino employs 1,200 people, has 300 hotel rooms, including 56 suites and 10 penthouse suites. The amenities also include four restaurants, an events centre, a swimming pool and a 36-hole miniature golf course with waterfalls and an erupting volcano. The Scarlet Pearl was designed by Nory Hazaveh with SOSH Architects and built by Roy Anderson Corp. of Gulfport.

The thousands of people that poured into The Scarlet Pearl were greeted in the southern tradition, with strings of pearly-white Mardi Gras beads, music and drinks, as they passed through the installations checking out the 1,300 slot machines.

Celebrating with the owner Bob Granier were D’Iberville’s Mayor Rusty Quave and city’s patrons the mayors of Biloxi, Andrew “FoFo” Gilich, and Gulfport’s Mayor Billy Hewes, the two cities in Harrison County with casinos. D’Iberville has worked for the past 20 years and through three city managers to finally get a casino.
