Massachusetts evaluates problem gambling

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is preparing a tracking process to prevent problem gambling.

US.- Addressing problem gambling in the State of Massachusetts, the local Gaming Commission is studying new methods to prevent the issue among residents. As revealed this week, the state’s gaming authority will implement an anti-problem gambling measure under an agreement with casino operators MGM Springfield and Wynn Resorts.

“We are very, very committed to innovative and aggressive promotion of responsible gaming and attention to problem gambling,” Gaming Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby said in an interview with MassLive newspaper. “It’s really a high priority and, I think, innovative.”

According to Crosby, the responsible gaming system will allow players to set voluntary budgets in order to get automatic alerts when those limits are near or exceeded. Last Monday, representatives of the Commission voted in favour of implementing the new measure in every licensed casino of Massachusetts. The systems will be installed through an agreement with casino operators and not through regulations. Wynn has already addressed the agreement.

Meanwhile, MGM Springfield President Michael Mathis said: “MGM Springfield is ready and willing to collaborate with the MGC on instituting a play management system that will not only serve the gaming customers of Massachusetts but that will also serve as a template for operators in other jurisdictions.”
