Massachusetts commission considers new casino

The proposal had been rejected two years ago, but a company wants the commission to take another look.

US.- The Massachusetts Gaming Commission gathered on Thursday and received a proposal to reconsider a US$700 million casino in Brockton. While the same push had been stopped more than two years ago, the commission held off on the request and will probably treat it in September.

With other gaming events happening in August, commission members said that they don’t expect to take up the request for reconsideration before September. The authority is set to supervise the opening of the state’s first casino, MGM Springfield, on August 24th.

Mass Gaming & Entertainment is the company behind the initiative and said that the southeastern region of the state continues to languish without a casino. While there is another proposal in Taunton by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, it has been stopped by federal legislative issues.

Current state gaming law allows three casinos in the state, including one in the southeastern region. In the petition, Mass Gaming & Entertainment said: “Reconsideration of MG&E’s application is not just the right thing to do for the Southeast region of the Commonwealth, it also is the legal thing to do.”
