Las Vegas CEO outlines plan for large gatherings

The CEO of Wynn Resorts hopes his plan will facilitate the return of corporate travel and conventions to Las Vegas.

US.- Matt Maddox, CEO of Wynn Resorts, has outlined a safety plan which incorporates medical technology in a bid to bring back large gatherings to Las Vegas casinos.

In an article in the Nevada Independent, Maddox wrote: “For months, we have been working with University Medical Center (UMC), Georgetown University and leading labs in California and New York to study technology that can rapidly and rigorously test thousands of people in a matter of hours.

“It’s important to note that our UMC/Wynn lab will offer the most sensitive and accurate test available in the United States utilizing FDA-approved “gold standard” PCR technology, and we are talking to UNLV to track and analyze the results.”

Maddox’s piece came just days after the state of Nevada increased its limit on gatherings from 50 people to 250. To pass the 250 person limit, Maddox will need state approval.

He wrote: “Clearly, we will need approval from the state to execute this plan, but having worked closely with leading medical experts around the country, I believe that this approach can accelerate Nevada’s recovery, and not just for the Las Vegas Strip, but also to reopen our schools.”

The Las Vegas casino industry has been slow to recover from the pandemic, provoking non-profit organisation Downtown Vegas Alliance to launch a campaign to attract Las Vegas residents.

Maddox believes corporate travel and conventions will “slowly ramp-up over the next few months”, and hopes his plan could help bring back mass gatherings.
