Encore Boston Harbor generates US$48.5m in July
The first full month of operations of Encore Boston Harbor shows that the facility generated US$48.5 million in gaming revenue.
US.- Encore Boston Harbor opened its doors on June 23. In just one week it managed to generate US$16.7 million in total revenue, so July’s financial results were expected to be as good. The latest Massachusetts Gaming Commission figures indicate that the casino did not disappoint and registered US$48.5 million in gaming revenue in its first full month of operations.
The US$2.6 billion facility from Wynn Resorts managed to generate more than US$27.4 million from table games and US$21.1 million from slot machines. The state will receive approximately US$12.1 million in taxes from the total revenue generated.
While the projections were already good, if this trend continues, Encore Boston Harbor could end up registering more gambling revenue than expected.
Moreover, MGM Springfield registered US$20.3 million in gaming revenue in July. Plainridge Park generated US$12.5 million from its slots machines, which is the only gambling modality it offers.
After a lawsuit, state regulator says the casino is in compliance
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission recently said that a preliminary investigation shows that the new Encore Boston Harbor is in compliance. This comes after a class-action lawsuit against the venue for allegedly retaining part of their winnings. The state regulator said that Wynn Resorts appears to be in compliance with the state gambling regulations for blackjack payouts. It also said the casino is not rounding down payouts from slot machines.
New York resident Richard Schuster argued the casino is paying out less for certain winning hands at blackjack. Furthermore, it accused the Encore Boston Harbor of rounding down payouts from slot machines. He filed the lawsuit in Middlesex County Superior Court.
However, the state regulators noted that the casino’s redemption machines for slot winnings don’t dispense coins. Gamblers must go to casino cashiers for winning less than US$1. Encore Boston Harbor said that they will consider adding redemption machines that dispense coins.
