Da Nang calls on the government to add more gambling tables

The Da Nang People’s Committee proposed to Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh, to allow an additional 80-100 gambling tables at the Silver Shores International Resort.

Vietnam.-  The Da Nang People’s Committee called on Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh to add an additional 80-100 gambling tables at the Silver Shores International Resort. According to Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, the resort’s eight tables are not enough given the increasing number of visitors.

Silver Shores International Resort Da Nang is an integrated five-star resort located on the coast of Da Nang. The resort opened in 2009, with an investment capital of €1.4 billion.

Huynh Duc Tho explained that the National Assembly’s Resolution No. 33 approved in 2003, allows the central city to establish the Crown Game Club at Silver Shores International Resort. Da Nang has been requesting additional tables for more than five years and although this request was approved by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), it stalled at government level.

Mr. Tho added that the resort’s investor, the Hoang Dat Silver Shores Exceptional International Entertainment Company, would contribute about €122 million in tax payments each year to the city if the club had an additional 80-100 gambling tables.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh declared that the government had discussed electronic gaming projects and is currently drafting a decree that although it would allow existing gaming locations to continue operations it would not consider expansions. New locations will be licensed in Quang Ninh province and on Phu Quoc Island but others are yet to be granted approval. Furthermore, the government has requested MoF to consider whether to permit gambling by foreign players only or by both foreign and Vietnamese players. To conclude, Da Nang’s proposal would be considered after the issuance of the government decree.
